Students are required to meet the Department's professional core competencies outlined below during their period of study.

DEGREE PROGRAM	PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY	REQUIREMENTS
Undergraduate Division	Competencies in writing academic reports	Students are required to finish a research paper by team work and be approved by committee members.
Undergraduate Division	Competencies in being civil servant orprofessional managers in private sectors	Student must pass the public opinion poll program or other interdisciplinary programs provided by other departments; or Students must complete at least four weeks of internship; or Students have to finish two lecture series of the Department; or Being approved by the MOST or other public or private institutions for outstanding proposals.
Graduate Division	Competencies in reading and presenting professional papers	Graduate students must present at least 3 research papers during their study in the Department.
Graduate Division	Competencies in writing master thesis.	Graduate students must complete master's thesis and pass the thesis evaluation. Graduate students are required to have at least one paper accepted for presentation at a refereed domestic/international conference or professional periodical.
EMPA Division	Competencies in reading and presenting professional papers	Graduate students must present at least 3 research papers during their study in the Department.
EMPA Division	Competencies in writing master thesis.	Graduate students must complete master’s thesis and pass the thesis evaluation.
